A Wish List For Restaurant Delivery

As we approach the holiday season, it's important to remember the primary factors customers are taking into account when choosing a food delivery service. That also means it's important for your business to stay safe and be prepared for winter season deliveries.
A Wish List For Restaurant Delivery: Image of a pen with the headline of "My Wish List"

With the holiday season upon us, people are starting to create a wish list. Restaurant delivery is no different.

According to an October 2017 Gallup study, restaurant delivery has the potential to grow to be a $100 billion market, with the quick service delivery market forecasted to reach $38 billion by 2020. This provides the franchisee with many opportunities to excel in customer satisfaction.  From a restaurant delivery standpoint, consider this wish list of customer preferences when it comes to food delivery:

    • Quality – the number one factor surrounding a customer’s decision to order delivery, with price being second.
    • Proximity – over 70% of people in the U.S. regularly order delivery from the same establishment.
    • Trust – over 70% of people prefer ordering directly from the restaurant, while only 8% prefer ordering through third-party providers.
    • Variety – Asian food, Italian food, and sandwiches are the most popular non-pizza delivery.
    • Digital Access – nearly 40% of millennials and Gen Xers plan to increase usage of food delivery, compared to just 19% for baby boomers.
    • Value – few people are willing to pay more than $7.50 for delivery, with $3.75 being the average.

Intrepid Direct has a wish list for our franchisees and their drivers, too, as driver safety is at the forefront of our minds every day. There is a major focus on safe traveling on roadways and highways, which is very important. However, what about the focus on getting you and your delivery to and from the vehicle safely? This time of year can create some challenges with dusk coming sooner, along with many yards and driveways filled with hazards due to lighting, ornaments, inclement weather, etc.  Remember these trip hazards when out on deliveries and walking in and around your delivery areas:

    • Wear sensible shoes with nonskid soles.
    • Watch for poorly or inadequately lit areas near driveways and leading up to front doors.
    • Look for ornaments, yard lights, and extension cords around yards and walkways as there could be hidden dangers associated with these.
    • Avoid running and cutting through yards.
    • Watch for uneven surfaces and trip hazards such as curbs and parking blocks.
    • Be aware of your surroundings and watch your step!

Consider reviewing our “Safety Guidelines for Delivery Drivers” article again with your employees.  This holiday season and beyond, focus on safety in order to increase profitability and lower your insurance costs.  We wish you all the best this holiday season and throughout the new year!
